How do I set up a tournament?

Create it, give it dates, then open entries. Nothing is public until you open it.

The short answer

Open Tournaments and create the tournament. It starts as a draft.

A draft is private. Nobody can see it and nobody can enter it.

Fill in the dates, the venue and the closing date for entries on the Setup tab.

Add your events before you open entries, because people enter an event and not a tournament.

When the events and the fee are right, open entries. That is the moment it becomes public.

Step by step

  1. Open Tournaments and create a new tournament.

  2. On the Setup tab, fill in the start date, the end date and the venue.

  3. Set the date entries close.

Entries close at the end of that day. Leave it blank if you do not want a deadline.

  4. Add your events on the Categories tab before you open entries.

  5. Set your UPI details so people can pay you.

  6. Open entries when everything above is done.

Things that go wrong

A draft is invisible, not broken

People often say they cannot find the tournament. Usually it is still a draft. Check the status before you look for anything else.

The closing date controls when you can make the draw

You cannot generate a draw while entries are still open. If you leave the closing date blank you will have to close entries by hand before you can draw.
